The main line Battlefleet for the Turbidious Sector is the Protectorate Fleet. It is one of three portions of the Battlefleet and it is by far the largest and most diverse portion of the Battlefleet. The other two portions are the Ironclad and Reserve Fleets. There is also an older portion of the Protectorate fleet that patrols just the Turbidious Sub-sector.
It is also by far the largest fleet in the Turbidious Sector but it still struggles to keep up with the demand put on it from the various threats. The strain has increased with the eruption of the warp storm in the Lockhead Sub-sector as well. However, if the whole fleet could muster at a single point then no other power in the sector would be able to compete with it. The Turbidious Sector provides men and materials to various other sectors but one of its oldest pacts is the one between Turbidious and Voss in the Segmentum Solar. A long standing trade pact, some 5000 years old, exists between the worlds.
It is a long trade route but has been a relatively stable route for thousands of years. One that has proven fruitful for both sectors, with both providing assistance to one another in times of strife. The Turbidious Sector has had a longer a storied past but one of the consistent themes has been it being a hub for commerce and trade in the Imperium, especially the core sub-sector that shares its name.
The vast amount of trade has meant plenty of fortunes won and lost throughout the ages and it is this huge amount of wealth that led to the construction of two sister ships of such size that they could only be classed as Universal Mass Conveyors. The capital world of the Turbidious Sector is Turbidious Primaris, which is located at the heart of the Sector and it is a powerful and wealthy world. Due to its location at the centre of the Sector with good warp routes to and from the system, Turbidious Prime grew into an industrial powerhouse, with its resource rich crust providing the early wealth for the planet to develop.
With the birth of the Living Saint Emmelia on the world of Nightfall Primus, the Turbidious Sector had a figure to rally behind as they challenged the Chaos incursion. The Chaos Warmaster Abel Vargas recognised the threat the Saint posed to his plans and aimed to crush her outright but the Chaos Lord was not counting on the quick response of the Imperium to their new hero.
In reality this fleet is the second largest section within Battlefleet Turbidious, the other sections being the Protectorate Fleet and Ironclad Fleet (here).
The Reserve Fleet consists of various different ship classes, with the fleet make up not conforming to any standard. It is first and foremost a reserve fleet, designed to assist in the protection of merchant shipping and trade lanes. The fleet additionally will be on patrol and guard outposts and stations throughout the sector. The Capital world of the Sector is Turbidious Prime which is a huge merchant and trading world, this is due to it being based in the centre of the Sector (maps). Due to its position the world has enjoyed vast wealth and power and it is the direct result from the excellent trade routes to the rest of the Sector, these trade routes are calm routes in the warp. More importantly for the Battlefleet however, the stable warp routes to and from the sectors heart that is utilised for trade are also ideal for the Navy to conduct patrols and get to warzones quickly.
The Dominion-class battlecruiser was primarily designed as a pirate hunter and convoy escort, much the same role as the Dictator-class fulfils; though where a Dictator would be sufficient to see off the raiders, a Dominion was designed to be their doom.
An Adeptus Mechanicus explorer fleet has been sailing in the Turbidious sector for lost technology and information for longer that the sector governor’s records extend. The Enyo Forgeworld in the Lindholm Subsector has typically been their base of operations, with a large amount of fleet repair facilities present in the space around the Forgeworld.
