The Capital world of the Sector is Turbidious Prime which is a huge merchant and trading world, this is due to it being based in the centre of the Sector (maps). Due to its position the world has enjoyed vast wealth and power and it is the direct result from the excellent trade routes to the rest of the Sector, these trade routes are calm routes in the warp. More importantly for the Battlefleet however, the stable warp routes to and from the sectors heart that is utilised for trade are also ideal for the Navy to conduct patrols and get to warzones quickly. For this reason Battlefleet Turbidious is based out of Port Invicta which hangs at anchorage above the merchant world. It is a huge Port with numerous defense platforms, space stations and several star forts that even rivals some of the more well-known ports like Cypra Mundi and Port Maw. The stable trade routes are one reason for basing the Battlefleet at Turbidious Prime but it also due to the vast amount of trade conducted on the world that needs to be protected. Many worlds would fall throughout the sector should Turbidious Prime ever fall. Due to the wealth the sector enjoys the Battlefleet is actually reasonably well maintained, with good ties to the Adeptus Mechanicus worlds and its not an uncommon site to see their vessels anchored at Port Invicta. Even Space Marine ships have been sighted at the facilities. While outwardly the Battlefleet appears as one organisation there are several differences in the fleet as a whole. The fleet consists of three distinct Sections from which battle-groups are built. Each of the three Sections is looked after by a Lord Admiral that they themselves are overseen by a Solar Admiral, who controls the whole of the Battlefleet. These Sections allow the fleet to perform different functions to allow the fleet to perform at its optimum. The fleet Sections consist of the Protectorate Fleet, the Reserve Fleet and the Ironclad Fleet. Each performs a different navy role for the Battlefleet. Protectorate Fleet – Blue Prows and the largest of the Section fleets, they are typically the main battle-groups deployed at any time and usually first respondents to a crisis. They are skilled and experienced navy personal and the Section is made up of various classes of ships. Ironclad Fleet – Voss Prows with red motif, this fleet was a gift from the Voss shipyards due to past assistance. The Voss ships are kept ready for where they are needed most and quickly warp to an engagement where their big guns can be utilised best. Reserve Fleet – White Prows and typically made up of older ship classes, mothballed ships and inexperienced crews. These ships are used to keep shipping lanes clear of pirates and small xenos incursions and for training new service personal. Sometimes new ships captain/crews will ‘pass out’ and move into the Protectorate Fleet. The Ironclad Fleet Consisting of the Voss pattern prows only, these ships were a gift to the Turbidious Sector. This gift came after the vast supplies of Turbidious were directed to war efforts on Voss to supply weapons and equipment for the various wars on Armageddon. Occasionally a new ship will be provided to the Turbidious Battlefleet but this is rare occurrence now, the knowledge to build such ships being difficult to replicate. On that basis the Ironclad fleet is only deployed to the worst battlefronts where their vast firepower is needed most to turn the tide. They are sent to warzones where the need is greatest rather than smaller engagements that the other sections of the Battlefleet can attend. This has meant that captains and crews that serve on these ships are some of the most experienced in naval warfare, with them dealing in huge and often complex battles. This has resulted in a bit of a hero mentality within this section of the fleet and this can often be a topic of contention within the Battlefleet. The Ironclads Fleet Flagship is the ‘His Iron Will’, a mighty Apocalypse Battleship that has served for several millennia in the Sector. It has often led from the front, blasting away with its prow mounted nova cannon before closing to get into range of its vicious lance broadsides. It has taken plenty of damage over the years, with its prow pockmarked with blast and burn marks. The ship though is yet to yield and has proven to be a bane to any who face her. The mainline cruisers for the Ironclad fleet place the emphasis on big guns. The aim for the Ironclad fleet is that, they are the hammer to break the deadlock. A blunt but devastating weapon to wield when the navy needs it the most and its proven to be quite effective in the past.
Like any fleet though the larger ships need protection and with a lack of fighter coverage in the Ironclad fleets the protective duties fall to light cruisers and escorts of the fleet. An interesting note is that all the escorts within the Ironclad fleets consist of the Falchion class exclusively.
