The Turbidious Sector has had a longer a storied past but one of the consistent themes has been it being a hub for commerce and trade in the Imperium, especially the core sub-sector that shares its name. The vast amount of trade has meant plenty of fortunes won and lost throughout the ages and it is this huge amount of wealth that led to the construction of two sister ships of such size that they could only be classed as Universal Mass Conveyors. Only the wealthiest of planets can ever think of building a ship on such a scale but two such craft were laid down the Port Invicta high anchor docks some 2000 years ago. Both ships were built to cater for the trade routes between Turbidious and the Forgeworld’s in the sector by the Turbidious governor but eventually they fell into the hands of a rogue trader dynasty that now owns both ships, ‘the Mercantile’ & ‘the Hawker’. Currently, ‘the Mercantile’ is the only ship of the two operational and still completing trading runs. Its sister is in dry dock for repairs on her prow after Eldar raiders boarded her and attempted to steal goods. ‘Hawker’ managed to avoid capture due to her sheer size and the number of crew that eventually overwhelmed the pirates. However, she was badly damaged and needed refitting. Repair though is no small feat, with both ships measuring a huge 12km long and both having around 500,000 people aboard. Repairing a ship and replacing crew on such ships can only be completed at the largest of worlds and so ‘the Hawker’ is currently docked at Port Invicta for repairs. The Rogue Trader Dynasty ‘Sorenus’ stills owns the rights to both ships, however, after the death of the family patriarch there has been issues with the family. The current Captain of the ‘Mercantile’ is former Battlefleet Turbidious Captain Landra Sorenus. Who renounced her commission in the battlefleet to take up leadership of the Rogue Trader family, as per her right. This was the wish of her late father as well and so the battlefleet had no choice but to allow her to leave. Captain Sorenus was viewed with skepticism at first however, she brings a level of understanding of the Imperial fleet mechanics few rogue traders would be able to compete with and so she has now been accepted as the Dynasties new head. Captain Landra Sorenus The Mercantile often travels with a large attendant fleet, with most of the ships owned by the family as well. It is understood that a single warship is also in the Rogue traders fleet. 'The Mercantile' - 300 Points The ship being a huge investment in resources as well as being an essential trading ship that can bring millions of tonnes of goods to worlds in dire need. This means that it is heavily protected by the Rogue Traders fleet and will often have a battlefleet escort as well. While the ‘Mercantile’ is primarily a trade ship with hundreds of thousands of people being born, living and dying aboard, it doesn’t mean the ship is completely defenseless. It has a complement of weapons batteries and fighter squadrons to help defend the ship. Additionally, it is a foolish admiral that would board a ship containing approximately 500,000 people. The ‘Mercantile’ has also ferried whole regiments of Imperial Guardsmen to warzones when pressed, even the best boarding party would find it difficult to claim a ship with that many guardsmen aboard. Special Rules: The ship is classed as a battleship and cannot use ‘Come to New Heading’ special orders Due to the sheer size and number of personal aboard willing to die to protect their home and the potential for whole regiments of troops to be present the ship cannot be boarded The ‘Mercantile’ and ‘Hawker’ are rare ships and only 1x can be present in a fleet at anyone given time. The ship is not a warship and so only contains a contingent of fighters to protect itself from potentially pirate attacks. Captain Sorenus is an experienced naval captain. Sorenus is automatically leadership 9 and includes 2x re-rolls. She costs 50x points and must be included and placed on the ‘Mercantile’ if the ship is included in the fleet. ---------------------
Thank you to Lord Borak for sending me this awesome ship. Look forward to seeing more of your designs.
