In reality this fleet is the second largest section within Battlefleet Turbidious, the other sections being the Protectorate Fleet and Ironclad Fleet (here). The Reserve Fleet consists of various different ship classes, with the fleet make up not conforming to any standard. It is first and foremost a reserve fleet, designed to assist in the protection of merchant shipping and trade lanes. The fleet additionally will be on patrol and guard outposts and stations throughout the sector. For that reason they mainly deal with smaller fleet actions and raids from minor xenos pirates and alike. These actions are great for newer captains and crewmen to cut their teeth and often inexperienced crews will command the reserve fleets ships. Additionally the reserve fleets are often made up of mothballed or outdated ship classes, with cardinal, slaughter and carnage classes occasional present in the fleet. These ships have often only skeleton crews with few captains and commissioned men wanting to serve on ship classes that are perceived as damned. That being said these ships provided added muscle where usually there wouldn't be any and so are vital to keeping the shipping lanes clear. Admiral Krassus leads the fleet from the front aboard the ancient Oberon class battleship 'Deliverance'. The ship has seen many an engagement, it is battle scarred and it's machine spirit temperamental but the ship is a key element to safeguarding more important worlds. She is a show of strength to planetary governors who may think to challenge the rule of the Imperium in the outer parts of the sector. In fact it was the Deliverances guns that crippled the space ports that were being used by Chaos insurgents under the direct control of the corrupt Cardinal Halus that stopped an uprising on Queens Fall. While the Deliverance is but one mighty ship and with no battlecruisers in the fleet the job of heavy hitting and bridging the gap between battleship and cruiser falls to the old Grand cruisers. These ancient gothic vessels are a sight to behold still and their vast gun decks provide the patrol fleet with much needed grunt. There are number in the fleet and have proven their worth time and again. However, there is still suspicion in the Battlefleet as whole around their use. This directly stems from the grand cruiser 'Holy Domain' turning rogue at anchor in the Lockheed system. It is not known when the grand cruisers captain and crew turned from the light of the Emperor but did so in spectacular fashion. Firing on the station it was docked with and ripping the chains from the station itself. It has been seen since in the colours of the blood god, still carrying the anchor chains and broadcasting the designation 'Gore Ripper'.
All loyal grand cruiser captains have sworn to bring this ship to heel.
