I am fortunate to own a pretty sizable Battlefleet Gothic collection. Consequently, I am regularly asked on my Instagram account where I obtain my ships now that Battlefleet Gothic is out of production. Quite a number of my fleets were purchased before the game went out of production but others (like my Dark Eldar Fleet) were purchased from places I highlight below. I recently recorded a short video for my Instagram followers too, which can be viewed on my account (@turbidious), discussing this topic but I thought putting pen to paper would also help. We have had a number of new officers joining the facebook page ranks and I suspect there will be more due to the new Brace for Impact Podcast being released. That is sure to pick the interest of numerous potential future admirals. So below are the places I keep an eye out for ships, welcome to my drydocks: 1. Facebook Pages
The most consistent resource I have found is the facebook pages dedicated to battlefleet gothic. Both the public and private main groups allow sales posts and more often than not there is a fleet for sale every week. The most common fleets found on the sale posts are the Imperial, Chaos and Ork ships, with Corsair Elder and Space Marines usually next in line. The other fleets do pop up from time to time but you have to be quick for those. Plenty of others are after them too. The best thing about the sale posts in these groups is that there is a good consistency to the prices and generally the community will indicate if a ship/fleet is priced too high or too low. So you can generally be confident you are not being ripped off, your fellow admirals have you back. Best be careful going through the facebook posts though, there is no buyer or seller protection, I only every use PayPal for these transactions to add some level of protection. 2. Ebay The obvious one and there are plenty of ships online which is great, there are also quite a wide variety of ships out there too. However, the cost can differ quite substantially and there are a number of people selling recasts as originals. I would recommend asking in the community groups if you have any questions on price and/or whether something is a recast. The community is very helpful and will provide advice if asked. 3. Second Hand Sellers I check out the larger wargaming sellers online to see if they have any ships (or other minis im interested in) in stock. Places such as Mindtaker Minis, Troll Trader, Tistaminis, Lazarus Games, aa-wargames are a few examples of shops that I check out. Most have a shop on ebay but also their own websites. If you check out Tistaminis you will even see some of my ships used as the advert too. 4. 3D printing Now if you don’t mind not having original ships then there are 3d printing services and shops to print you off ships now. The most extensive site is Shapeways and there are a number of shops that offer different classes and even ships not originally in the game, for example Tempest Shipyards. If you are lucky enough to own your own 3d printer then there also plenty of brilliant designs on thingyverse that you can download the file and print straight away. There are also 3d printers offering their service on the facebook pages. 5. Third Party Similar to above if you are not concerned with original models then there are several third party providers that have awesome designs. The best ones I have found are Vanguard Minis, Battlefleet Glaxay and Ravenstar Studios and both provide a large collection of original sculpts that fit very nicely into the BFG game. Dropfleet commander ships are of similar scale (and made by the same creator as BFG), some of their line fit very well with the BFG ships. 6. Paper Cut Outs The rules for BFG mean that you measure to the stem and/or base and that the ship on top is the captain’s representation of the ship in space. The sheer size of space means this is the simplest way to have ships next to planets and asteroids etc, otherwise the scale is too vast. So if obtaining models is tricky or pricey then there are paper versions of all the models that you can print out and stick to the base to represent you model. Simple and easy way to play the game and just with a quick google search you can have all the fleets printed. Ok all, hope that helps and feel free to message with other places you find ships or if you have any questions.
