Every so often on the Facebook pages and also on my Instagram I will see a question around how to build chaos cruisers to meet the correct class.
While the Imperial ships have several obvious configurations the Chaos ones are not so easy to work out from just the drawing in the rule books. I have never overly worried about the physical model for my chaos ships being 100% accurate (especially with the murder, slaughter and carnage classes) but there are those that like to be accurate. So below are the assembly guidelines for each of the standard Chaos cruisers from the original books. I hope it helps:

I recently wrote up an article on the different ship classes, along with some of the named ships that were around during the Horus Heresy. That article is here for those interested and provides a list of the different classes.
I had plenty of good feedback on the list and a request was made to showcase the different ships so that fellow hobbyists might be able to easily recognise the ship classes. Well the Emperor and the High Lords of Terra have ordered me to provide for his loyal citizens and so this is Part 1 of a showcase of the different ships around during the Horus Heresy. There have been plenty of rumours swirling around the community about the potential Battlefleet Gothic update in line with all the other specialist games that have seen new releases.
The rumour mill suggests the new game will be set in the Heresy Era, which I am conflicted about but that’s a story for another day. Historically I have seen many people in community and forums ask about what ships were around during the time of the Horus Heresy so that they could create their own fleets for that time. Often to try to create a fleet in line with their 30k army they are building. I picked up a fairly decent sized chaos fleet a while ago now and while there were several cruisers included there were a couple that had been hacked apart to represent hulks. While one was easily fixed with a bit of green stuff to represent a Nurgle cruiser, the other one was in a much worse state.
The decks and aft had been cut into for explosion damage and the prow had been cut off and reattached with metal rods. It was a well done wreck if truth be told. However, I thought that this ship would fight again in the name of the Dark Gods! So I set about to try to repair the ship. That would teach those Imperial fools for not completely destroying the ship. |
