I picked up a fairly decent sized chaos fleet a while ago now and while there were several cruisers included there were a couple that had been hacked apart to represent hulks. While one was easily fixed with a bit of green stuff to represent a Nurgle cruiser, the other one was in a much worse state. The decks and aft had been cut into for explosion damage and the prow had been cut off and reattached with metal rods. It was a well done wreck if truth be told. However, I thought that this ship would fight again in the name of the Dark Gods! So I set about to try to repair the ship. That would teach those Imperial fools for not completely destroying the ship. I had several chaos parts in my bits box, along with some spare Imperial flight decks and other BFG bits that I knew I could use. I knew that I wanted to make it an evil looking ship, back for revenge and more murder after its previous defeat. So the obvious choice was a Khorne ship that could potentially also double as a daemon ship – maybe. First up I removed the beyond repair gun decks and replaced them with the top section of the imperial flight decks. This gave the ship a jagged look that fitted nicely with the Khorne feel I was aiming to go with. I also replaced the damaged gun decks with new ones and a lance battery on either side and a new bridge was needed for the new Captain. The prow was a bit too far gone to save, with it stuck together with a couple of metal rods. So I decided I had a much more suitable replacement. I had bought a box of juggernauts years ago from a random local gaming store on the cheap and hadn't touched them. One of the heads was put to good use. I did have to use quite a bit of green stuff in the attachment of the head though, as this portion of the hull had already taken a beating. After waiting for everything to dry it was time for a black undercoat and then a base coat of red. Blood for the blood god after all! I used a base coat of red and then went over it again with blood red (all my paints are GW). Then gold, brass and various other little highlighting bits. I also used nulin oil wash across the ship to give it more depth. Finally, here is the completed ship in all her daemon glory. I run her as the Devastation ship class and while the more in your face Carnage class is more appropriate for Khorne I do think that the Devastation class is good too. I mean what’s more Khornate than jumping into a dreadclaw and rushing across kilometres of space to board another ship.
