One aspect of the hobby that I love is creating our own characters, armies and themes, as Im sure many of you do too. This website is an example of me trying to do just that after all. While Games Workshop has just given us better ability to do just that in 40k with the character creation rules they have just released they never did anything like that for Battlefleet Gothic. So what to do? Well this was left to the community to do and I would say the BFG community took to creating their own ship classes like ducks to water and fully embraced it. There was and still is a huge variety of community created ships from all the races, from simple new escorts, to new cruiser hulls for standard Imperial/Chaos fleets, to new classes like a battleship for the Dark Eldar. I have a few of my own created ships and one of them is here, my Sister of Battle Cruiser. Warp Rift magazine was great for this back in the day and if you can find these they are well worth the read. They had some brilliant fan-made ships for races like the Rak'Gol and Diasporex. But creating a ship and making it playable are different things, creating a massive dreadnought and making it able to be worth gaming with is a difficult task. However, we are fortunate in the community that we had awesome people that did all the hard work for us several year ago. Ned Smotherman, with other editors, created a formula that is pretty much the go to for creating a balanced ship. The formula allows you to add up all the points for your created ship to give it a level of play ability that is fair. So below is the PDF file for people to use as needed to create your own ship. Much appreciated to Ned and the other editors, it is an Emperors gift. File:
Editor note: I wish Port Maw still existed!
