Thought to be once a great Librarian that fell to the powers of the dark Gods, Warmaster Abel Vargas ‘’the Butcher’’ has built up quite the fleet over the hundreds of years of warfare in the Turbidious Sector. Originally making his base of operations out of the Dark Stars zone the brutal warlord has set his sights on the capital world of the Sector – Turbidious Prime. Now based in the Abysal Realm within the Turbidious Sub-Sector itself it has been the perfect staging zone for attacks on key systems and shipping lanes in the sub-sector. Through careful manipulation, charisma and sheer brutality Vargas has brought under his command many former rivals. Although boasting a large fleet already, the bringing to heel of other factions throughout the Turbidious Sector has swelled the Warmasters fleet measurably. All four of the Chaos Gods pantheon is represented in the fleet, although they mainly operate separately they have come together for key stages in Vargas plans, such as the capture of the Craftworld Lanruin and the destruction of the Astral Lions homeworld. In keeping with the pacts Vargas has made with his patron Gods the Warmaster has eight lieutenants, one for each point of the Chaos star. All four Gods are represented in the cabal of eight, two for each God; each lieutenant is a Chaos Lord in their own right and a scourge on the Sector. Having two Chaos Lord Lieutenants for each God has allowed Vargas to control the cabal, each vying with each other as well as trying to be the greatest champion for their own God. Typically this has meant that one Lord controls the fleet aspects while the other controls the ground forces. The fleets are divided into the four main Gods
There are also pirates that the Warmaster has established connections with if required, The Bloodmarked King and his pirate warbands being one such group. Additionally, it is known that the Warmaster has xenos Sslyth as well as his contingent of Space Marines as bodyguards. Vargas has typically mainly answered to Khorne throughout his damnation but in completing various tasks for the other Gods while also ensuring skulls are always provided to the Blood Throne Vargas has gained the favour of the other main Gods. While he does take command of the main body of the fleet for time to time Vargas is usually the one at the head of any ship boarding actions or planetary invasions. Thus he ensures that his warriors spill enough blood for Khorne. When doing so the command of the fleet falls to Lord Dracon, a former Imperial Admiral. The Warmasters main flagship has always been the Chaos Eternal, an ancient vessel once belonging to the Astral Lions chapter. However, there are whispers that Vargas has found remnants of the once mighty planet killer and has commissioned his warpsmiths to bring the ship back to life. The Turbidious Sectors hope it is just scuttlebutt but time will tell.
