There are a number of pirate warbands located throughout the sector. Some operate from small asteroid fields, moons or space junk yards. Others form bands in the outer rim parts of the subsectors, trying to avoid Imperial eyes. The pirate bands can be dangerous with some Ork, Gorganos and mixed race pirate groups at large in different parts of the sector. However, it is the Eldar Corsair Pirate fleet, ‘The Night Vipers’ commanded by Prince Menlyth , which is far the biggest pirate threat in the Turbidious Sector. Prince Menlyth commands an extensive Corsair fleet, one that if pooled together could easily rival their Craftworld kin and portions of the Imperial Battlefleet. When the Prince goes to war it is in a mighty warship indeed, the dreaded 'Asuryans Gift' a Void Stalker class battleship. It is fortunate for the Imperium that the Corsair fleet has not all mustered into one combined fleet as yet and prefer the typical pirate tactics of small hit and run raids. Imperial scholars believe the Prince is a former member of the Lanruin Craftworld but no further information could be gained by the Rogue Traders interviewed that have had contact with the Prince. While typically preying on transport routes and easier targets the Night Vipers have been known to assist their craftworld brethren, especially against Chaos. Particular hatred is afforded to the Slaaneshi elements within the sector though. With the Slaanesh fleets targeting elder craft and possible bases the ‘Night Vipers’ have made it a point to attack and destroy any potential worshipers of the God of Pleasure. This is often completed through the fast, surgical strikes from their various light cruisers and escorts. Solaris Light Cruisers Aurora Light Cruisers While some would see this as evidence to point to the Vipers helping the Imperium they are far from allies, the fickle nature of the Eldar shows this.
It is understood that they have been operating in the sector for some 800 hundreds years at least, a small amount of time for Eldar, with Prince Menlyth becoming leader recently by elder standards. The Corsair defeated the previous prince in a duel but has kept the former leader as second in command.
