The Kor’Vattra fleet of the Tau first arrived in the Turbidious system as part of the third phase of expansion. Initially the Tau third sphere of expansion was thought to be focused on the area around the Damocles Gulf and while this is mostly correct it seems that during the splitting of the fleets by Commander Shadowsun a portion of the older Kor'Vattra fleet models extended themselves further than any other fleet. This has only now been matched by the fifth sphere of expansion after the creation of the startide nexus. However, how the Tau managed to come into the Turbidious sector was purely by chance. The small portion of Kor’Vattra fleet that was portioned off was commanded by Aun'O Vior'la during this time. Originally issued with orders to delay Space Marine fleets and use hit and run tactics in the Gulf, it seems that after coming into contact with a Hrud caravan the Tau fleet had issues with their inertia drives and information systems. Unknown to the Tau the inadvertent contact with the Hrud had caused various degrees of ageing of their systems. They would receive messages years old or seemingly from the future. Struggling to understand the various mixed messages and delayed responses Commander Vior'la continued his initial orders and pushed into Imperial territory to try to delay the Imperial reinforcements. This, coupled with the withdrawal of many Imperial elements to fight the incursion of Hivefleet Behemoth, Commander Vior'la thought he had the Imperium on the run. How wrong he was. His fleet came into contact with tendrils of Hivefleet Behemoth and after crippling losses and being cut off from trying to return to Tau space Commander Vior'la sent out drones to try to find shelter. Lost, broken and cut off the Commander chose to anchor the fleet at a small feudal world within the Halo reaches of the Turbidious Sector. The world was technically Imperial controlled but had not received contact in several hundred years. Commander Vior'la saw a chance to try to rebuild his resources and recontact the Empire. The world saw the new arrivals as divine beings and the few ethereals still within the fleet set about using this new source of labour and potential military strength. Additionally, using the untapped mineral rich world the Tau succeeded in repairing much of their damaged fleet and setting up a stronghold in the Sector. Eventually repairing their systems the Tau realised how far from home they were and set about the task of contacting their home worlds. They succeeded recently, in time with the fifth phase of expansion, drones from the Turbidious Sector eventually reached their home worlds and brought word of a newly established Sept in the Turbidious Sector. The homeworlds reacted quickly and using the new technology of the FTL drives sent reinforcements to the Sept. However, the newly formed Sept has not been without strife. While out on a small patrol of his new domain Commander Viro'la was unlucky enough to find himself caught and then controlled by a Chaos incursion. Warmaster Vargas’ Dark Mechanicum watchmen had imbued torpedoes with daemon energies that when hitting the hull of an opposing ship transferred the daemon into the new hull. The result was several Tau ships becoming conduits of the warp entities which easily caused the crews to bend to the will of Chaos. In the end this small fleet, along with Commander Vior'la was instructed to attack Turbidious Prime as part of a diversionary tactic for a later larger Chaos Incursion. The Tau fleet was utterly destroyed and along with it Commander Viro'la. Thus the Imperium is now aware of the Tau presence within the Sector and the Tau lost their most experienced war leader.
Leadership transferred to Commander Shas'la Me'lek and she now has led the Sept to control much of the now newly named Hosuna system and shore up defence for the subsequent arrive of the Homeworld reinforcements. Only time will tell if the Sept can survive long enough for them to arrive. It is fortunate for the Tau that the Imperium is too preoccupied with the Chaos incursion and the new threat of Hivefleet Wyvern to worry about them. In addition to the Hrud interaction the fleet contained Nicassar Dhows rigs which Imperial adepts believe are the reason they managed to secure safe passage through to the Turbidious Sector. It seems other alien races aligned with the Tau also assisted, with both Kroot and Demiurg ships known to be present in the now Tau Sept controlled portion of the Sector. Reports from Rogue Traders in the area suggest that there is also the presence of older Imperial hulls within the fleet too, referring to them as the Diaspora.
