AuthorTurbidious The Kor'or'vesh fleet is one of my favourite fleets aesthetically. I have actually had more experience fighting against the fleet. I found that the Custodian Battleship to be one of the best battleships in the game and its not just because of its carrier capacity. I had a number of requests for a tactica on the Custodian and while it has taken some time, as promised here is a rundown of one of the best ships in battlefleet gothic. Generally speaking the forgeworld ships have better front armour than their Explorer fleet (GW) contemporaries. The spread of ordinance on the forgeworld ships is generally spread evenly and so is more versatile. The FW also have greater firepower and are faster, albeit at a greater points cost. This does mean though you can be a little more aggressive with this Tau fleet and have more tactical versatility with it. Forcing your enemy into brace for impact as early in the fight as you can to try to both reduce enemy firepower and retain the advantage of your ordinance. Picking on the greatest threat and concentrating on that will help you succeed. The centre point to this fleet is the Custodian and it is one of the strongest battleships in the game. Firstly we need to look at the stats of the Custodian to understand why its such a good ship. The Custodian generally matches its Imperial counterpart, the Emperor, for firepower and launch capacity and also comes equipped with some lances, which is bonus. It also has torpedoes and the bonus of the target matrix (no right column shift). This buff extends to ships around it too. The Custodian also comes in cheaper points wise than the Emperor to boot. It’s not a ship to take lightly. While it does have a 6+ front armour the 10 hit points hurt it and so you want to keep this ship out of any slugfest. Like any Tau fleet, dont let anyone get near you to board either! If you are in boarding range you will suffer badly. Keep the ship at its 45cm range, churning out the ordinance and taking shots from range. Keep the ship at its 45cm range, churning out the ordinance and taking shots from range that do not have a right column shift. The fleet in general should be utilised this way to make the most out of the time before your enemy can get into range themselves. You need to pour out ordinance from the start and soften up the enemy's heavy hitters before the main battle occurs otherwise you may struggle. The Custodian will be the focus point of the force and supporting it with its few wardens will catch a number of opposition admirals by surprise. Dont underestimate the humble warden and as the Custodian comes with three ready to go they can prove to be excellent screens. If they are aware of this potent combination then it plays nicely into your blue hands, as keeping their distance and being cautious is what you want the opposition to do. The ships of the Kor'or'vesh fleet are faster than their GW brothers and so it is easier to keep them at arm’s length. Due to the speed you can group your fleet up into subgroups to try to focus your enemy away from your main line carrier and always keep the objective in mind. While the Custodian can match other ships of the line when it comes to firepower, its main armament will be the ordinance. As the Kor'or'vesh fleet relies more on their torpedo output, the Custodian is your main carrier and it needs to protect your torpedo sniping actions. The standard cruiser for the fleet, the Protector, is more of a torpedo platform and a savvy opposition admiral will quickly realise that the Custodian is your main fighter/bomber ship. So keep her safe and away from the enemies big hitters admiral! When fighting against the Custodian I would struggle if I didnt manage to get in close as soon as possible, the volume of ordinance coupled with the warden screen can prove quite frustrating. I would always advise to purchase some re-rolls too, just in case the dice gods are fickle. If you lose your ordinance for even one turn your chances of victory will dramatically drop.
Do you have any more tips for using the Custodian? Let me know and Il update.
